A class discussion about the geological formation of the Appalachian Mountains and their eroded soft peaks began this project for Room 202. The fourth grade social studies unit on landforms and science unit on changing Earth’s surface provided a strong curriculum connection. Using the iPads and the app Sketchbook Express, students created a landscape with six soft wavy lines that depict the mountains and then painted them in a value scale sequence. Students were photographed in front of a green screen and then digitally alter their image to create a silhouette with the app Superimpose. Both images were combined in Superimpose for the final product, that you can view in the slide show below.
